Changes (big changes)
by Miles ~ May 27th, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized. It has been a while since I’ve posted, an inexcusably long time really. The fact is that AlphaFount is going through a little bit of a crisis.
I’m fine myself, but I’m starting to wonder whether it’s really wise to be pumping investment suggestions out over the internet. Here’s the crux of the problem: Either I do a good job and make strong arguments for buying profitable securities, in which case I really ought to be keeping such things to myself until I’m rich enough to fly around dumping silver dollars out of my dirigible, OR I don’t do a good job, which would be crummy for everybody but less crummy for everyone else if I weren’t blogging.
I started keeping this blog for two reasons: (1) I wanted to practice communicating my investment methods with other people, the more faceless the better, and (2) I thought keeping a record of my thoughts would add discipline to my analysis. That second reason still seems pretty sound, but I’m not sure that blogging is the absolute best way to keep records of what I’m doing / thinking. I don’t know whether I’ve done a very good job of the first point, and I’m not even sure that I really want to do a good job of it. In the market, anything worth saying is worth keeping to oneself.
The upshot is that I’ll be turning AlphaFount into more of a traditional blog. I’ll be eliminating the favorite trades as well as some of the old posts. I guess, like a lot of blogs, this will probably just turn into my personal dumping ground for thoughts and resources I want to share. I’ll be keeping my investing to myself from now on.
